upgrading my pixel

 My Motorola edge 2023 broke on vacation in 2024.  It was only 300 no bid deal.  

So I went to Bestbuy and got a used pixel 8 pro 128gb for 644 dollars and 93 cents in late march.  It had only 9 battery cycles on it.  

When trade-ins were happening I was really surprised google offered me 699 in return more than I paid for it.  The total for a new 9 pro with 128gb also was only 362 dollars and 44 cents

It was 1061.44 full price for the pixel 9 pro phone (999x.0625 sales tax) and then when it arrived I mailed it back old pixel 8 pro phone and received 699.  So only 362 dollars and 44 cents.

Today August 28th 2025 I went to the store that did not exists lat time.  Last time I bought it first online and then mailed the trade in.  Then after the phone arrived and the trade in box came to my house I sent the old one back.

This time was so much easier.  Goto the google store and all done there.  No waiting for my new phone to arrive and then wait a few more days to mail the old one back and they inspect it ect.  And they helped me transfer apps and contacts and everything.

This time the trade in was not as high.  But the gave me 550 plus another 100 promo code on the store landing page if subscribed by august 19th which I did.  But the way they calculate is really odd.

Yesterday the guy at the store told me the promo code and the trade in are applied right away.  So should have been 349 Plus tax.  So 375 dollars and 18 cents.  

Today he said otherwise but still an awesome deal so I did not have time to argue.  Still the phone for 999 dollars but the promo code was applied right away.  Then tax on top of that.  So 899 dollars x 0.075 sales tax at the store is 966 dollars and 43 cents.  Then the phone was deducted.  So minus 550 total is 416.43.

Plus 3 dollars and 67 cents credit leftover from the pixel tablet I got last year.  I upgraded from the pixel 8 pro to 9 pro and got 300 extea credit.  So the pixel tablet 128gb was only 39 dollars and 4 cents.

So Total 412 dollars and 76 cents for a brand new pixel 10 pro.

So 362.44 + 412.76 =775.20.  So 775 dollars and 20 cents in 2 years.  

And next year if the amount is the same not bad.  Can't be less than 550 because that is almost half.  And it's never been less than half.  Also even if no promo code is given next year and if it says 999 dollars not bad.  

That is still 999 dollars x 0.075 sales tax so 1073 dollars and 93 cents.  Minus 550 is 523 dollars and 93 cents.  Then the extra credit I got for upgrading this year is applied.  Credit is always at the end he said.  So minus the 289 dollars and 56 cents credit is 234 dollars and 66 cents.  So not bad.  And if an extra 100 promo code is givin then not bad.  But even without not bad for 234 dollars and 66 cents.

= 1009 dollars and 86 cetns.  Minus 1061.44 for just the one phone is 51.58. So less than the the price of  one google pixel 9 pro in 3 years and I got all 3 phones.  I got 8 + 9 + 10 + 11.  So it's not expensive to upgrade every year.  And I get a fresh battery and the latest camera, etc.  So not bad.
